ANSWER
The Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar. This means that it follows the cycle of the moon. There are twelve months in the lunar calendar and in total it is 354 days long, thus making the Islamic calendar move back 10 days every year when compared to the Gregorian calendar. Hence, you would find that Ramadan starts on a different Gregorian date each year.
