From the tradition (sunnah) of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), on the day of Eid a Muslim should strive to do the following:
1. To adorn oneself as permitted by Shari'at.
2. To take a bath.
3. To clean the teeth with Miswaak.
4. To wear the best cloths that one has.
5. To use perfume (brothers).
6. To rise early in the morning.
7. To eat something sweet like dates before going to the Eid prayers gathering.
8. To go to the Eid prayers gathering very early.
9. To give Zakat El Fitr before going to Eid prayers gathering.
10. To offer Eid prayers in the congregation
11. To go to the Eid prayers one way and to come back another way.
12. To go on foot (if possible).
13. To recite slowly on the way to the Eid prayers and on the way back: “Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Laa ilaaha illallahu Wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Wa lillahil Hamd."
Whilst at the Eid gathering every Muslims should strive to do the following:
1. Be quiet while the Imam is explaining how to pray.
2. Straighten your lines in prayer.
3. Be quiet during the Khutbah.
4. Greet those whom you know and those you don't.
5. Contribute to the arrangement of the Eid prayers.
The Eid Prayer In Islam
1. The Eid prayer is Wajib (obligatory) on every male Muslim.
2. The Eid prayer can be performed any time between the Ishraq and Zawal.
3. It is preferable that the 'Eid prayer is performed at an open field and not in a mosque. However, if, it is difficult for any reason to perform it in an open field, it can also be performed in a big mosque.
4. It is not advisable to hold the 'Eid prayer in every mosque, rather it is preferable that the people from several small mosques get together to either perform it in an open field or, in its absence, in a big mosque which can accommodate a large number of people.
5. No Nafl Salah can be performed before the 'Eid prayer, neither in one's home, nor at the place of' Eid prayer. Similarly, Nafl prayer cannot be performed after the Eid prayer at the same place. However, it can be performed after one comes back to his home.
6. The Eid prayer has neither Adhan nor Iqamah. |

One of the largest mosques in Sydney Australia, Masjid Imam Ali (ra) in Lakemba, has declared that the last day of Ramadan shall be on Friday 12/10/2007. This means that the Eid festival "Eid El Fitr" shall begin on Saturday 13/10/2007 for a lot of Sydney Muslims.
May Allah swt accept all your good deeds for the holy month of Ramadan and we kindly remind you to pay the Zakat El Fitr, the compulsory charity at the end of Ramadan, to your neartest mosque or Muslim charity organisation. Remember your fasting is not accepted until you pay that donation to poor and the needy. This year the compulsory Zakat El Fitr donation is between AU$7 and AU$8 depending on the organisation which is collecting. Here are two charities accepting Zakat El Fitr: Human Appeal and Muslim Aid

Zakat al Fitr

By Definition Zakat or zakaat or zakah means "to grow" (in goodness), "increase," "purifying," "foster," "making pure". Fitr or Fetir or Fetri means "to break fast".
